Hardscape is a great way to make your yard a space you want to spend more time in. We believe that hardscape services are an essential part of landscape design, and we love incorporating elements like patios and paths into our lush, sustainable plantings. However, we also know that many of our Atlanta clients don’t realize that hardscape is a part of landscaping!
In today’s blog, we’ll be answering a few FAQs that we get regarding our hardscape services. We hope that you learn something new and get some ideas for your own hardscaping project! If you’d like to learn more, visit our hardscape service page or contact a landscaping experts at Michaelangelo’s Sustainable Landscape and Design Group. We serve customers in Alpharetta, Marietta, Roswell, and everywhere in between.
What Is Hardscape?
In its simplest terms, hardscape consists of the non-living elements of landscaping. The living, growing part of your landscape is called softscape. Water elements are also part of landscape design and hardscape can be used to create those features.
How Much Does It Cost To Hardscape My Yard?
Like everything in landscape design, the cost depends on the time and materials needed to do the job. Each project is different, and our landscaping company would be more than happy to talk with you about your vision, show you some options, and put together an estimate. Contact us today to get started!
What Are My Hardscaping Options?
Our landscaping company offers a variety of hardscaping options, and you can always mix and match to create a unique landscape design that fits your space. Here are a few materials used in hardscaping:
- Bricks – placed in patterns and using different coloring
- Composite Decking – resist mold and splinters
- Concrete – can be stamped, texturized, and colored
- Loose Materials – like river rocks and gravel
- Pavers and Stone
All of these different materials can be used to create walkways, patios, retaining walls, and more! Check out our gallery to see some of our completed projects and get ideas for your own.
Why Should I Get Hardscaping?
Unlike living plants, hardscaping elements don’t require water, mowing, pruning, etc. Hardscaping also increases the accessibility of your property. Not everyone can walk through a lush yard, but with hardscaping you can create easy-to-navigate paths. Hardscaping can also increase your enjoyment of your outdoor space. For example, adding a patio or an arbor with shade means you’ll eat, read, and relax more outside.
Are Paving Stones Environmentally Friendly?
Yes! Here at Michaelangelo’s Sustainable Landscape and Design Group in Atlanta, we’re all about environmentally friendly landscaping. Paving stones are a great choice for sustainable hardscaping, since they allow water to drain through. This helps prevent washout, improves soil health, and allows the bacteria that live between the stones to remove toxins.
